charming old town, and Virgen del Pino church

Large historic houses line the town's main square Plaza de Nuestra Señora del Pino. Some of these mansions date from 16th century with carved wooden and stone balconies. The basilica Nuestra Señora del Pino completed in 1767. Its octagonal shape and mix of Moorish and Baroque elements make the tower a distinctive landmark. The main highlight is the Baroque altar with its 15th-century, carved figure of the Virgin. The Virgin is the patron saint of the island and the reason the biggest fiesta in the Canary Islands.
